Venetian blinds

Choosing the perfect style blinds for your home can take a great deal of time and effort, so it’s important that they are measured and fitted correctly to ensure they look their best and that no damage is caused. This article will offer a step by step guide to installing Venetian blinds, so they provide excellent insulation, look stylish and function properly for many years to come.

Prior to measuring

Before you start measuring the blinds, you must decide whether you want them fitted inside or outside the window recess. If you would prefer outside, the blinds should ideally overlap the exterior of the recess by 75mm at the top and bottom of the window.

If you choose to fit the blind inside the window recess, you may need to cut the blind down so it fits properly. You must always make sure you measure the blinds meticulously to ensure you cut equal amounts of each side the blind so it matches perfectly.

Mounting systems

To ensure your Venetian blinds are mounted safely, you will be supplied with a few different brackets to hold the blinds in securely in place. You will require:

– Box end bracket left

– Box end bracket right

– Centre Support bracket (larger blinds may require two of these)

The versatility of the box end brackets allows you to screw through the top, back or sides, depending on which best fits your window recess.

Positioning the brackets

First and foremost, when positioning the centre support brackets you must avoid fixing them where the ladder cords come out of the headrail so they do not interfere with the functionality of the blinds. Once you have decided on the position of the support bracket, mark the fixing holes lightly with a pencil and position the box end brackets accordingly using a spirit level.

If your blind is being fitted outside the recess, you must make sure the brackets are positioned out of the way of anything protruding from your window to avoid damaging your new blinds.

Attach the centre support bracket by using screws through the top of the bracket so it is fixed firmly in place. When attaching the box end brackets, make sure the hinge door is located at the front and insert screws on either side of the recess so the brackets are secure.

Attach the blinds

Once you have fitted the brackets, it’s finally time to attach your brand new blinds! To do so, open the front of the box brackets and insert the headrail of the blinds until they click into place, making sure the cords are at the front of the blind and the slats are in the correct position. Then, close the hinge boxes so the blinds are properly secured and test that they operate smoothly using the cord.

Child safety

You must remember to fix a cleat to the wall so the loose cord can be safely tied back and kept out of the reach of children to avoid any accidents. Safety blind parts such as cleats and control chain safety clips can be found on the Blinds Parts page of our site.
