The first week of last month was dedicated to Child Safety Week; an annual event run by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to raise awareness of the risks of child accidents and how they can be prevented. During Child Safety Week, local events and activities are put together to promote safety messages and impart useful information on to families, carers and the media. Help from the following organisations and individuals is enlisted to spread the message:

– Children’s centres

– Childminders

– Fire and rescue teams

– Hospitals

– Schools

Child Safety

In recent years, the importance of child safety has become a major consideration in the blinds industry, so much so that the British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) launched the ‘Make it Safe’ campaign in 2009 to raise concerns about the need for safer blinds. The drive behind this campaign was to push for a development of standards and ensure the appropriate safety advice is given to property owners.

Blinds are a major hazard are often overlooked by homeowners who are childproofing their property; in actual fact, young children are at danger of suffering strangulation from the loops of the cords which operate the blinds. Therefore, all the necessary safety precautions must be in place to prevent any such accidents occurring in your home.

All of the blinds we offer here at Kingston Blinds Direct are made to the highest quality and standard, so each and every customer can enjoy complete peace of mind, particularly when it comes to child safety.

In line with the ‘Make it Safe’ campaign, all of our blind designs and installations are completely child friendly and adhere to the relevant child safety legislation, so you can have total confidence in the safety of your new set of blinds.

Furthermore, we also offer a comprehensive range of affordable, easy to install safety parts which can be added to your blind to prevent cords or chains from posing a risk to any young children in your home. These parts include:

– Chain and cord tensioning pulley

– Chain pulley

– Cord cleat

– Plastic chain connector

– Control chain safety clip

Functionality vs Style

While window blinds are available in an extensive range of colours, patterns and finishes, it’s also important to consider the functionality of the blinds to ensure optimum safety and efficiency. It can be easy to focus solely on the aesthetics of the blinds to choose a design which complements the rest of your home, but we also strongly recommend that you consider how the blinds will operate so they are suitable for your application.
